#GivingTuesday Participants Span The State of Indiana

INDIANAPOLIS – Organizations and businesses throughout Indiana are looking to boost charitable contributions and volunteerism through efforts surrounding #GivingTuesday. Global organizers say the movement drummed-up some $116 million last year and involved more than 700,000 people in 70 countries. In Indiana, nonprofits are using the day to showcase themselves and the communities they serve.

Indianapolis-based BidPal Inc. develops fundraising software and has taken part in the program for the last three years.

BidPal Vice President of Sales and Marketing Karrie Wozniak says the global attention connected to the initiative “permeates” participating nonprofits.

The event follows Thanksgiving weekend in the United States and coincides with consumer-focused days like Black Friday and Cyber Monday and organizers say it helps kick off the charitable season and spotlights individuals and organizations giving or seeking holiday or end-of-year donations.

The movement’s theme revolves around social media and collaboration-fueled giving. Dozens of Indiana organization’s are participating, including:

The Indiana campus of Down Syndrome of Louisville is recognizing #GivingTuesday by sharing stories of its programs through social media.

The Community Foundation of Morgan County and Citizens Bank are encouraging area residents to give through a dollar-for-dollar matching program.

The MutualBank Charitable Foundation will match up to $5,000 as part of its collaboration with United Way of Delaware County aimed at improving literacy of children in the community.
